Poster
Bellow is my poster with the written paragraph about Clock monster;
Clock Monster i s a stubborn little creature with an explosive personality, who has seriously low patience. This results in him getting extremely fed up of his light constantly flickering, and going on a mini mission to figure out how to stop it. His emotions are displayed mainly through his eyes, and second hand, as he displays his building frustration on this journey he goes through. Where he learns the probverb, "at first you don't suceced try, try again"

PlayBlasts
During my animation process I utilized play-blasting, due to the lagging i was experiencing throughout, thus making the animation process more difficult, as i could see clearly what i had done. The first play-blast of my scene I tried camera movements where the camera followed the Clock monster around, however i found this to be very distracting and decided to alter this so the cameras movement was very minimal . Bellow is the first play-blast i did.
Rigging
For the rigging for my animation the only character that needed rigging was the clock monster itself. The rigging in clock monster consist of; his chain, his eyes, second hand, wheels. For the chain I placed an IK joint within each of the connections, then did a rigid blend, which helped keep the same feel that a chain would have. For the eyes i used blend shape where i made several distortions which i choose from during my animation. However i found that this feature made my animation lag during the animation process. Bellow are some images.
Model Progress
The first step that I am going to take is producing my environment, Thus I am going to model and put simple textures on all the items within my environment. Throughout the modeling I am going to update this blog post to show the process I went through for each of the items in my environment.
Bed//
When creating the over all effect for my environment i wanted to create a fancy, old fashioned atmosphere, as i felt this would greatly enhance the detail I have placed within my clock monster.
So for the bed I created a rich wooden double bed frame, by using simple rectangles in maya. The pillows were also created with rectangles, however i modeled them before apply the cloth technique, and after fiddling with the settings and the timeline, I managed to get the soft pillow placed look then deleted the history to keep the shape. I did the same with a plane for the blanket. For the textures I wanted a patterned blanket and pillows as i felt this enhanced the atmosphere of the room and suited the rich wooden bed frame.(the textures for the wood, and the blankets bellow)
Bedside Table//
For the bedside table, I wanted to keep the same wooden gran that the bed frame in order to keep with the eutectic of the room. Again i kept with the old fashioned style when modelling the table, and i believe this style has then been enhanced by the choice of handles. I kept the coloring of the handles simplistic as I didn't want to draw away from the bedside table itself. I modeled this in maya, using rectangles for the bedside table and Polygon torus and cylinders for the handles and under detailing. The legs where also done using the extrude tool. .
Books//
The books all had the same base and inner texture for the pages (seen in bottom image), but i changed the size, scale and texture of each to give range, and to create what i in vision a realistic bookshelf. The different book textures were all found on creative commons, under patterns, i felt this gave each book a unique feel and helped bring more depth to the environment. For the page texture I created my own image (bellow) which just consisted of lines, which i put as the texture mapping on an off white color. However i wont upload all the textures for the books, as i feel its too many. This was also made in maya utilizing just rectangles and the extrude tool.
Book Shelf//
For the book shelf i also kept with the same color scheme, thus matching the wood gran on the bedside table and bed frame, as i though this enhanced the style of the room. The book shelf was kept simple due to the detail of the books inside, I didn't want a cluttered look. Again this was made in maya using rectangles and the extrude tool.
Light//
The Light was made a light tone to bring some highlight to the room, with the wood texture being such a rich color. I feel this contrast worked well within the environment. With the light frame i stuck to simple shapes, however added detail to the fixture as I feel too simple would not fit with the style that has been created with the other furniture. The light was made in maya using manly the sphere, cylinders and I also used a CV curve and a NURBS circle to produce the arch which contexts the light bulb to the lamp, which i then connected into a polygon. For the light Bulb i simple added a glow feature to make the light bulb flicker, as it does within my film.
Pen//
The pen is simply made in maya using cylinders. However with the time limit that i had to complete my animation I decided to cut the pen scene from my animation, as i felt with 3 weeks less I would not be able to fit all this animating in to a standard that i would be happy with. However i kept the pen in the scene.
Environment//
For the skirting i decide to keep the wood theme consist, and made that the texture. The walls were also kept simple with a cream color, and a feature wall, which was a surly dark blue pattern. which i think enhance the focus of my environment. For the carpet i used a carpet texture found on creative commons, as shown bellow.
