I've started brainstorming ideas for the meaning behind my character and his adventure, I've decided to look at Proverbs, such as the following;
At first you don't succeed try try again
Don't judge a book by its cover
Smelt it dealt it
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link
A leopard cannot change its spots
I've settled on "At first you don't succeed try, try again" now I will began sketching ideas for my object and movement.
Objects
Old fashioned Books
Clocks
Train
Anchor
Computer mouse
Basket
Teapot
Candle
Foot rest
Knitting equipment
Movement
Pistons
Tank
Pogo stick
Hydraulic pump
After doing a few sketches I've settled on the combination of a combination of clocks for the object and tank for the movement, as i feel that this links well to my chosen proverb with time being a symbol for the time sometimes taken to complete a difficult task. After a few sketches I settled on the following movement shown bellow.
For choosing the environment in which my creature lives I've decided that since he is an clock of sorts I think I will place him within a bedroom upon a bedside table. I believe this environment will suit his make and personality. Bellow are some drawings of the bedroom the scene will take place in.
Now Im producing my storyboard. Focusing on my proverb I've decided that I'm going show a stubborn little creature who wont give up. Where he has to overcome a situation with a few challenges on the way. Brainstorming ideas I've come up with the following;
He loses something, such as the key in his back
He breaks His leg, or his chain hands and has to find a solution to fix themFor the final storyboard I've chosen to focus on the the idea that he has something irritating him that he has to fix;
Next step I'm going to do is make my model in maya. To do this I produced Orthographic images of my final model as shown bellow
Making my model in maya I utilized simple shapes, and clear patterns and materials to help add depth to my creature. as you can see in the following turntable and the renders
Character Paragraph;
Clocky, my creature that I have created is a stubborn, spunky little character who likes his own way and never gives up. Clocky has been greatly inspired by pocket watches, alarm clocks and tanks. The chosen proverb "At first you don't succeed try,try again" helps link these two objects together. The tank, which is associated with the Tiananmen Square protests, I believe is a great example of this proverb. The clocks, symbolise the time factor of this proverb, how time and effect are the main causes of giving up.
